Getting started / Lesson 01

Your first useful conversation with Claude

No complicated vocabulary required. Bring one small, real task, and let’s take the first step together.

By the end of this lesson

Write a prompt with an audience, a goal, and constraints, then improve it based on the result.

01Before you begin

Have a Claude conversation available and pick one small task. We’ll use a meeting invitation as an example, but you can use your own task.

02Try it together

Tell Claude what you want to accomplish, then add the context it needs. Try the example below and look closely at the response.

An example to make your own
Write a meeting invitation to my teammates.
We plan to discuss project progress on Friday afternoon.
Use a friendly tone and keep it under 100 words.
Leave placeholders for the exact time and meeting location.

Make this example fit your own task. Start simple, then adjust.

WHO

Audience

Teammates, rather than a new client.

WHAT

Goal

Invite people to discuss project progress.

HOW

Constraints

Friendly, short, with missing details left open.

03How do you know it worked?

Does it read like an invitation? Is the meeting’s purpose clear? Are unspecified details left as placeholders? A useful answer helps you finish the task; it doesn’t have to be long.

04Now it’s your turn.

YOUR TURN / PRACTICE

Change “teammates” to “clients”, or “friendly” to “formal”. Change one condition at a time and compare the versions.

When you’re done, take a moment to check:

These examples practice communication and verification. Model responses will vary. Published guides will include screenshots, applicable versions, and verification dates.
