Work with files and projects

Attach a document, create a focused project, and verify a grounded answer.

Before you begin

Prepare a short non-sensitive document you can share. Projects group related instructions and files; attaching a file to one conversation and adding it to project knowledge serve different scopes.

1. Attach and confirm the file

Use the + menu to add files or photos, or drag a file into the conversation. Check that its name appears and upload finishes before sending. Start with a short PDF or TXT. For supported formats, limits, and spreadsheet prerequisites, use the upload reference rather than renaming an unsupported file.

2. Ask for evidence in the answer

Name the file and the task. Ask for quotations or section references, and require missing information to be marked. Open the original document to check a few claims. Scans, complex tables, and image text may need additional verification.

Summarize the attached document in five bullets.
For each bullet, include the page or section and a short supporting excerpt.
Separate stated facts from your interpretation. Mark missing details.

3. Build a project for repeated work

Open Projects and create a new project with a useful name. Add reusable reference files to its knowledge area and task-specific instructions to project instructions. Describe the important background in those instructions: the project name and description alone are not provided as working context. Start the next related conversation inside that project.

4. Maintain a clear source of truth

Date reference files, remove obsolete copies deliberately, and state which document wins when versions conflict. Review project visibility before adding team material. Do not assume every conversation automatically remembers the contents of every other conversation.

Practice & self-check

YOUR TURN / PRACTICE

Create a practice project, add one reference document, and verify three statements in a new conversation.

When you’re done, take a moment to check:

Read the official sources

CLI instructions checked against official documentation; API examples tested with simulated responses. Product-account walkthroughs were not performed.
